At the 2003 IPF World Masters - World Champion @ 67.5 !



It all started at the side of my friends garage and I started training at 14 years old.

I entered my first competition in 1979 Irish Championships in which I weighed 49kgs ( believe it or not ) in which I won at the total of 350kgs.In 1981 I went to my first European Championships in Italy in which I placed 5th with a total of 420kgs.

In 1984 I went to Sweden at 56kgs and came 4th 480kgs.In 1985 my first junior European Championships, GOLD, first taste of victory(body weight 56kgs).1986

Senior European Championships 5th 56kgs category total 512kgs.Junior European Championship GOLD,515kg total.It was off to the World Seniors in Holland and got 3rd place , total 527kgs.

European championships in 1987 BOMBED out in the Squat (to young to know better and open to heavy at 200kgs). Wanted revenge and started training for the World Seniors in Norway where I got Gold and the first World Champion for Ireland ever.

1988 European senior Championships Gold .

World Championships Australia 3rd, up till now all competitions had been lifted at 56kgs body weight and that was the last time I ever went down in weight.

1989 European Championships 3rd at 60kgs.

World Championships 5th at 60kgs Canada.The first time I ever saw the power of Ed Coan.Took a year off and relaxed.

1991 European Championships GOLD Iceland 610kgs total

World Championships in Holland 2nd place to Lamar Gant

1992 world championships Birmingham GOLD and won the Lifter award and set a new European total of 650kgs total.Had been held by the great Eddie Engel.

1993 Gold 60 kegs class 655kgs total,also European record total.

1993 world games in Holland 645kgs total.and won best overall lifter.Took time out to get married to my wonderful wife and buy a house.

Returned to competition in 1997 World championships in Prague.5th place in the 67kgs class 680kgs total.

1998 World Championships Ukraine in Russia Silver. The airline lost my bag with all my equipment so I had no gear to lift in but I still managed to lift 640kgs, with a squat suit I borrowed from Wade Hopper, my training partner's bench shirt, some Australian guys wrist wraps and John Neighbour's knee wraps.

1998 Irish Championships 730kgs.

1999 Irish Championships 67kgs class 752kgs total.Squat 307, bench 175kgd deadlift 270kgs.

1999 world championships in Italy Gold total 660kgs.

2000 Senior Championships 782kgs total 67.5kgs body weight.Squat 312kgs, bench 185kgs deadlift 285kgs.

October 2000 Munster Open Senior Championships 60kgs class weigh in 59.5kgs and went 282kgs squat and bench 167.5kgs and deadlift 270kgs 720kgs total,which was a world senior record and the biggest total done by 60kgs Lifter ever.

October 2003 IPF World Master Champion at 67.5, with 276.0 and 285.0 kg WORLD RECORD squats.
